ADULT BALLET
Adult ballet: begin with the body you have today
You do not have to lift your legs high or perform difficult movements to begin ballet. We discuss a path towards learning basic positions and movement, taking account of whether you are a complete beginner or returning to dance.
Class & program enquiries ↗Talk about your experience, rather than testing your flexibility
What we need to discuss will differ depending on whether you have never tried ballet or are returning after a break. Even if you remember the terminology but movement feels unfamiliar, it is best to choose a class based on your current experience.
As a beginner, take time to explore how you stand, the direction of your feet and knees, and the sequence of arm movements, rather than pushing positions further. Focus on discovering your comfortable range instead of comparing leg height or turnout with others.
Keep basic movements small and your focus clear
New movements can feel difficult because you need to remember both their names and their sequence. Rather than trying to memorise everything after one explanation, repeat the basics and notice how your feet contact the floor and how each movement begins.
How far you stretch is not the measure of your practice. If you hold your breath or feel discomfort in any area while following a movement, reduce the range and let the instructor know. Jumps and turns should be introduced gradually, in line with your preparation and the class format.
What to wear and how to build a steady practice
You do not need a full specialist outfit to begin. Choose clothing that allows you to bend your knees and lift your arms comfortably, while letting your movement be seen. Check footwear requirements, such as socks or ballet shoes, when booking, as they depend on the floor and class format.
If you keep a short practice record, note whether you remembered the direction of your feet or used excessive tension somewhere, rather than counting movements. Tell us your preferred location—Jamsil–Songpa, Seocho or Seodaemun—and experience so we can check adult ballet classes and private lesson availability.
Check your preferred location and schedule
Tell us your preferred location—Jamsil–Songpa ART SPACE, Seocho ART CENTER or Seodaemun ART HALL—and available days and times. Class arrangements, instructor schedules and fees are provided after consultation.

Can I begin adult ballet if I am not flexible?
You do not need to base your class choice solely on your current flexibility. Tell us whether you are new to ballet and whether any movements cause discomfort. We can discuss a class approach that helps you learn the basics within your own range.
Do I need pointe shoes from the start?
Pointe shoes are not beginner equipment. First ask which shoes are suitable for your class. Pointe-related training requires a separate assessment of your experience and readiness.
I learned as a child and have taken a long break. Which level should I ask about?
Tell us how long you studied, how long your break has been and which movements you remember. It is better to discuss a class based on what you can comfortably do now, rather than your previous level.
